Holy Smoke! Calvary Secondary Students to Showcase BBQ Skills Against Australia’s Best
CALVARY Christian College is proud to announce that a team of its Secondary students will be participating in the highly anticipated 4WD Central Townsville BBQ Battle Competition at Melville’s Farm, Alligator Creek on Saturday 1st June.
The student team, aptly named "Holy Smoke," comprises talented Year 9 to 12 students who are ready to demonstrate their culinary skill on the grill at their first ever BBQ challenge.
Taking place among some of the finest BBQ teams from across Australia, including a team from the USA, "Holy Smoke" stands out as the only student team represented at this prestigious BBQ event. Despite facing older more experienced competitors, “Holy Smoke” is ready to rise to the challenge and hopes to inspire other schools to participate in future events.
The competition, which is part of the Australasian Barbecue Alliance Champion Series, will see "Holy Smoke" pitted against 15 other teams, each vying for points and the title of BBQ Grand Champion. The teams will cook five proteins including, chicken, lamb, pork ribs, beef ribs and brisket over the course of the day.
With their passion for cooking, the Calvary students have been preparing for the event in their weekly BBQ Club, a part of the College’s Sports and Co-curricular Clubs held every Friday and are sure to make a memorable impression at this year’s event.
The Townsville BBQ Battle Competition promises to be a day filled with delicious food, friendly competition, and community spirit. With an estimated attendance of over 5,000 spectators, “Holy Smoke” is looking forward to being part of the competition and experiencing all the event has to offer.
